The Great Sunflower Project
Bee curious: The greater benefits of photo-tagging

Video by YourGardenShow - Presented by Gretchen LeBuhn

Gretchen LeBuhn: If you're someone who takes a lot of pictures, one of the things that you can do that really benefits the ability of others to use those pictures is to put tags on them. Simply marking them with "First Flower," "Snow," "Seed," "Fruit" allows others go in and pull those sets of images out and use them in some interesting ways.

I hope that, over time, we'll develop a standard set of tags that everybody can use. We're not there yet, but I expect that that will happen in the near future.

And [I also expect] that there will be Citizen Science projects that ask in particular for you to tag "first leaf," "first flower" -- because having a visual documentation of the event, not just the report of the event, really makes that powerful data.

So go out and tag your photographs. Take that little bit of extra time and do that. Because it really improves the ability of others to use images.
