Ways to speed up a slow-processing compost? A relative has a tall round compost bin in her yard to which she adds food scraps (sans meat and dairy), leaves and grass clippings. However, it's near impossible physically for her to "turn" it and she forgets to water. As such, the compost is not processing as speedily as I would expect it to.

Any advice for speeding things up?

Cover the compost bin to keep in the moisture and heat. Sprinkle the grass clippings so they mix in better with other organic materials and do not clump up.

Some people swear by adding worms...others use "activator"..make sure it's all natural...

Maybe she could give a teen looking for a couple of bucks the turning it once a week job:)
