I can't say this is a fun "Daily Dig"; this is just ridiculous! The family of this incredible garden are being forced by their local police to reduce it's size by over 50% in keeping in accordance with the town's code of regulations. Ludicrous! And I thought Canada was getting things right....

Please sign the petition to help save this beautiful garden!

What a tidy, attractive landscape!! So many neighborhood associations and/or local governments make it difficult to be green. Our neighborhood association had to come and check to make sure our recently installed solar panels were not too conspicuous from the street. They also dislike clothes lines, so we put a laundry rack on our back terrace where it's out of sight.

@BotanicalBrain: It is true they can make it more difficult to be green than it needs to be - it is like throwing the baby out with the bath water.

Are they crazy? So what...let's put more pavement? This is a stunning garden! I could never live in a development that controlled things like that. I'd get in trouble and probably would get kicked out.

@PrinceSnow: they must be crazy as that garden rocks!  it is so neat and tidy - better than many front yards that I have seen that would be deemed compliant

@PrinceSnow: There are ways of sneaking in the good stuff. We live in a neighborhood that tries to control things, so I just mix edibles among my ornamentals. I have a righteous 'Prescott Fond Blanc' Melon weaving through my Salvia coccinea and dahlias. They'll never know.

@krandolph: Ha! Thank you. Still some of my neighbors think my garden is too wild. They either love it or hate it. Just yesterday I was introduced to a neighbor with a meticulously coiffed, sterile boxwood, begonia and red Knockout rose landscape and she immediately said with sober countenance, "Oh, you're the one with the wildflower yard." I said, "Yes I am!" ;)

@BotanicalBrain: I hear you! My neighbor across the street has a perfectly groomed perennial garden, and she must think our veggie jungle is untidy, but she rarely turns down the lettuce, tomatoes or cukes we share with her...

@BotanicalBrain:   And Proudly said, I hope!  Funny how some people think.... or maybe that is the problem, they don't think.  :)

@krandolph:  Diverse gardens are beautiful gardens as long as they're not totally weedy untamed messes. I say as long as plants are deadheaded and beds weeded, it's not a problem. The wildlife diverse gardens draw--whether they be food gardens or flower gardens--is equally diverse. They are biological oases.  Here are some photos of my "wildflower" garden taken today

@krandolph: Thanks so much. The eggplant shot was the last of six images but only one came through. The eggplant is 'Machiaw'. It's very mild and delicious. I'll have to check out the variety you grow!
