Ian, we start to worry about our pumpkins rotting on the underside. Is there a  need to elevate the pumpkins...or are we worrying unnecessarily?  Most of our pumpkins are laying on a thick landscape fabric.

A Master Gardener at my community garden puts the ground fruits/melons on an inverted styrofoam plate. It seemed to work well.

A piece of old shingle works well too.Anything to get the fruit off the ground, so it can dry between rains.
