@PrinceSnow: Lovely photo! Did you know there's a good hydrangea group up in your area: Cape Cod hydrangea Society.  If you haven't checked them out here is their website>  http://www.capecodhydrangeasociety.blogspot.com/

@Groundskeeper: Oh thanks. The white one had an interesting progression. Pure white...then blue tipped....the pale blue overall. It was fun to watch the transformation.

@PrinceSnow: Ah, an intermediate moment. So the whole plant goes through color changes. Very cool.

@PrinceSnow: Someone told me that, on the Cape, people are cutting (i.e. stealing) hydrangea blossoms to sell. Any truth to the rumor?

This is great. So many great hydrangeas. Photos help a lot to know them. Here's hoping that other plant societies will jump in with us all. Spread the word?

I'm still searching for a photo I made in Maine last month of a summer cottage completely fronted with hydrangeas as tall as the porch railings in three colors. Wow!

I found this hydrangea section  with the search term "Forum hydrangea." Easy.

So here's a photo of acultivar unknown to me that I photographed on Squirrel Island in Maine in July. Anyone recognize it?

Finally, I found the photo from Squirrel Island in Maine. It puzzles me. What hydrangea are these plants and if they're all the same plant, has the gardener changed the soil pH for each plant in order to get all these flower colors?

@Groundskeeper: Looks possibly like Endless Summer...I had several colors as well on first bloom. I actually want to pull mine up. They are in a full sun, southern exposure area, and they hate it! They look gorgeous in spring , and then droop, and look horrible once the heat hits.I've attached a few photos of mine. Thanks for the photo, and for looking for it! I would love to live in that beautiful house!

@Groundskeeper: All it takes for the soil to have variations in the pH level to change the colors from plant to plant. The gardener probably didn't have to change anything, just natural variation. Maybe one area got more soil amendments than another? Anyway they look gorgeous! Thanks for the photo. Would love to have my hydrangeas look that good!

@PrinceSnow: I have the same problem with too much sun on my largest hydrangea, but I just water it every day and it does fine, It's right outside our kitchen window, so it's worth the bother,

@jooly88: Yes my dad said my grandfather (back in the 1840's) would have them throw nails in the soil  around the plants to change the colors

@DirtyDan: I wish my problem was that easy. The first year every time it drooped we watered, not knowing that the droop was just the natural cooling feature of the hydrangea, rather than a thirst for water. As soon as the sun fades, the leaves perk right back up.  This does not happen to any of our hydrangeas partially shaded by the Maple Tree. We water every other week or so in drought now....I think they just did not create a plant meant for southern exposure when they created Endless Summer. I wish I knew how deep the roots were..I am ready to rip them up and move them!

@PrinceSnow: I think 'Endless Summer' is right but it was introduced in 2003 (by Bailey Nursery) so the ones in the Maine photo can't be more than nine years old. What do you think of their size?
