While sandy soils are not recommended for commercial growing of some vegetables, satisfactory crops of most of them for home use can be obtained. The soil, however, must be kept well supplied with humus, and fertilizer in small amounts should be applied frequently. Water is usually the limiting factor on sandy soil. |

What types of vegetables grow best in a sandy soil?Carrots! These really thrive in well filtered soil... We use 1/2 sand 1/2 soil for our carrot beds..enjoy!

What types of vegetables grow best in a sandy soil?I had good luck with okra, butternut squash and baby watermelons in pure sand (well, maybe a little dirt mixed with the sand a mulch of compost). But I had to water every three days in the summer. I wonder if parsnips would like sandy soil.
