Should root vegetables and leafy sorts be planted in alternate rows?

Since the fertilizer requirements differ, the leafy vegetables need considerable nitrogen and the root vegetables require a higher percentage of phosphorus and potash, it is usually more convenient to group the two types rather than to plant them in alternate rows.
