(Cucumis dipsaceus) These little creatures are the most spiny of all! This African species is completely covered in soft spines. Attractive greenish-yellow colored fruit are sure to become popular with lovers of garden ornamentals. Quite easy to grow and very productive. Considered poisonous, do not eat.

Tender perennial grown as annual—Rambling vines may be trellised, or allowed to sprawl on the ground. Needs moist, well-drained soil, full sun. Plant in place after last frost of spring, or start seedlings indoors and set out after last frost. Grow in small hills of 4-6 plants, spacing 15 inches apart in the row, with rows about 4 feet apart. Tender young leaves may be used as greens.
