A beautiful and delicious plant that is very popular in Asia. The purple-red leaves are used to color and flavor vinegar and to make beautiful, pink rice. Great in salads; flavor is a mix of basil and mint.

Grow it Forward Gardens with this Plant

Just saw these beauties today (3.6.12 zone 6b).... tiny little sprouts all over the garden.  We've had Shiso for years (15+) and never knew what it was. My father was building a house for someone and saw the Shiso, brought them home, and wallah!  We've had them ever since. I've moved several times and the Shiso has always managed to follow. They thrive in my urban jungle, but they are easy enough to pull when they get out of hand. Glad to know what they are, and better yet, they are edible!  I love Shiso's frangrance, too.
