Thinnings may be used as greens if sufficiently large; an occasional leaf can also be picked from among the tender leaves emerging in the centers of larger plants. Turnips may be sown in early spring and will succeed where there is sufficient cooler weather for 60-75 days after sowing. Prolonged hot weather makes ripening turnips strong-tasting and woody. (less)
