Heirloom. Deep purple fruit with tangy flavor and green or buff husks. Stores well after harvest.
Tomatillo seeds can be sown indoors in pots ¼ inch (6 mm) deep 6 to 8 weeks before last frost and transplanted outside after risk of frost has passed. Harden plants off before setting out by putting plants outside for gradually longer periods of time, but be sure not to expose them to frost during this period. Plant in rows 3 to 4 feet (8 to 10 cm) wide with a spacing of 18 to 24 inches (45 to 60 cm) in well drained soil. Give plenty of water and mulch well to maintain consistent soil moisture and keep weeds at bay. Harvest when the papery husks turn brown.
