The x intermedia hybrids (H. mollis x H. japonica) are large deciduous shrubs which typically grow 12-20' tall and feature mid to late winter flowers. 'Sunburst' is an upright, vase-shaped cultivar with ascending branches and a spreading habit. It typically grows to 12' tall and to 8' wide. Clusters of lemon-yellow, spider-like flowers with narrow petals to 1\ in late January to February. Broad-oval, bright green leaves (to 6\" long). Yellow-orange to yellow fall color can be quite attractive."

Easily grown in average, medium, well-drained soils in full sun to part shade. Best flowering in full sun. Prefers moist, acidic, organically rich soils. Tolerates heavy clay soils. Promptly remove suckers to prevent colonial spread. Prune in spring after flowering to control shape and size.
