ëLightning Flash is a hybrid perennial coreopsis that is perhaps better know for its golden foliage than for its yellow flowers. It typically grows in a clump to 3-5 tall. Lance-shaped leaves are yellow. Daisy-like yellow flowers bloom atop slender, erect stems from mid to late summer. Plants in the genus Coreopsis are sometimes commonly called tickseed in reference to the resemblance of the seeds to ticks. Some nurseries currently list this new cultivar for sale as a cultivar of Coreopsis tripteris. U.S. Plant Patent Applied For (PPAF).

Easily grown in average, dry to medium moisture, well-drained soils in full sun. Established plants tolerate heat and humidity. Plants also tolerate drought, but best performance generally occurs in soils that are given consistent and regular moisture throughout the growing season. Plants grown in dry soils tend to be shorter, open and somewhat spindly. Avoid poorly-drained heavy clay soils. Prompt deadheading of spent flower stalks may encourage additional bloom.
