Been MIA for some weeks. So many changes afoot at the homestead, I've just been reeling. Can anyone lend me about 4 days with nothing at all planned?

Thanks! The main change is extremely daunting. I start work next week for the first time outside of the home since summer of '04. My husband will be quitting his job and becoming the stay... more » |

| Thanks for checking on me! My camera's at the shop. Without it, I'm not as inspired. But I borrowed my husband's iphone this morning and took some shots. I should have them up this evening! |

Fog and condensation. And the first hints of flower buds on the satsuma.

Beautiful morning here in Central Texas. Watered my beds comfortably barefoot with coffee in hand, checked for new buds and true leaves, gathered mature snap peas, and loved every minute of it.

This morning's AM walkabout: Several of my kale sprouts went *poof* in the night, but the baby pecan is budding! Also, I am amazed at how quickly squash grows overnight. And, finally, this season's tomato has shown its first tiny fruit.

It think these will go for jam and perhaps a few table grapes if they're seedless. I started with only two vines to get my chops for grape growing. If I decide to grow for wine production, I'll... more » |

| Oh! You've actually hit an area of knowledge with me! I am very interested in wild eating and foraging. You can make wine or jelly/jam with mustang grapes. Obviously, the jelly would be the easier option. Yum yum! |

Another grey, nappish kind of day. Walking the grounds yielded sight of buds on the brand new pecan, tenacious tomato volunteers, and first sets of true leaves on the kale and delicata squash.

| Yum! Lucky you! |

We began with a 4 X 8 bed, constructed of posts and 2 X 10s. Two more appeared through the diligence of my spouse. Compost constructed of old pallets and rigorously used. Fruit trees recently planted to the tune of fig, pecan, Asian pear, and Satsuma. Blackberry bushes, grapevine. It's wild out there. I let stuff go to seed, and I don't pay too much attention to what comes up where.
