I am an American immigrant to Amsterdam (Holland) - and learned the art of balcony gardening. When we moved, my balcony shrank.... so I took to the streets! Check our my guerilla street gardens in front of my apartment and at my office. The city sort of ignores them... sometimes.

Amsterdam Street Gardens Amsterdam, Netherlands

Guerilla street gardens in Amsterdam, the Netherlands, that I created together with my neighbor, Antje. This is a small side street in an immigrant neighborhood, that's had a rather colorful past. The street was barren, so when they renewed the soil under the trees,... » more

Mom & Dad's Stamford, CT

There's something delicate and tender about nature in Fairfield County, Connecticut. My parent's home had landscaping sometime in the 60's, and now my 80-something mom does all the gardening. And mom and dad send me photos from time to time. It's nice to see the... » more

Allotment on the dike Schellingwoude, Netherlands

After years of being on the waiting list, on 4 June 2011 I finally got a garden allotment (known as volkstuin in Dutch). It's just a 15-minute bike ride from home, at the back of an old Dutch dike - and has a little house and a greenhouse. And lots of trees and... » more

    Hi Claire,
Look  under the garden pages and I have a separate album of my Double Delight. It's right next to the Joseph's Coat.

Thank you, Claire, for all your nice comments. As you can see I love gardening. I will try to tag my plants - haven't figured out how to do it with those that are already posted. I do have a lot of different plants and have only one of many of them. When I saw the dragonfly on my trelis I ran inside for my camera and when I got back a second one had joined the first! I then walked to the other side of the house and as I got close to my corner street sign - Mockingbird Lane, a mockingbird flew onto the sign! I got a picture of that too. I was so blessed by nature that morning. The staghorn was given to me and was not nearly that big and was sickly looking. I must have chosen the perfect place as it really has done well. I enjoyed looking at your pictures very much!

@Betty:If you go to the page of the pictures you posted, you will see buttons that say "tag" and "edit". Click 'tag' and you can enter the name - it will pop up some suggestions from the database, and you can click one of those to make it easy. I think it's a nice feature, because it forces me to actually learn the names of plants - and I learn from other people too! Thanks for your nice comments!

Thanks for your comments Claire. It is amazing how much green a balcony can hold.

Claire - yes i love my porch in the evenings and being in a townhome we are restricted to where we can plant - my best bet is to leave the plants on my porch and the deck area - which get the best sun.  while i like my green views - i feel it is boring compared to the your great garden and neighborhood thanks for sharing the great pictures and clever descriptions -  i feel the need to go home and snap up pictures of my neigbors gardens  - there are several talented gardeners in my area - i am  very excited to be part of something that brings a smile when we look at the great pictures Pat

@PatS1954:I guess that is the one drawback of living in a townhouse with a gardener. They like to keep it all simple and perhaps somewhat bland. My courtyard garden is maintained by the building cooperative and while it looks lovely, I am sometimes sad we can't go in there - it's just for viewing. On the other hand, because no one cares about our street, I can pretty much do what I want there (with my neighbor). Soon we will plant a new garden under a tree on the street, which we didn't get to last year. I am really happy that the street gardens have succeeded in their first year, and that no one has really done any damage, just kids picking flowers and pigeons picking around for a little snack. I look forward to seeing your neighbors gardens! Why not ask them to join YourGardenShow? They might like it, too!

@Claire: i plan on passing out YGS cards when i ask my neighbors if i can take their pictures.  do you know the developers of this website - if not how did you come upon it? Pat
Claire replied over 1 year ago
@PatS1954:I know the developers, who asked me to help as their international outreach director (I still need to write my blurb for the About page!). And had worked with Lisa and Maria years ago on a voter outreach campaign for US expats. How about you?

Thanks for your comments Claire.  I wish I could remember the name of the small tulips. They make great container plants.  I do know I bought them from Michigan Bulb company. They cam part of a set for naturalization. Part of my yard is made up of two sloping hills. Figured that would be a great place to put them.
