I doubted... but it's working! Today I opened my balcony composter to toss in some rotting bananas, and a swarm of fruit flies greeted me - ugh! So I stirred in the bananas and - man oh man, it was HOT in there! I just didn't expect it to happen, but nature does work wonders!

When I dug in to stir things up, a wave of steam wafted up! Wow! I'm composting! :-)

I have been collecting fall leaves from the street to toss over the rotting food (people must think I am an insane bag lady, scooping up leaves into my Albert Heijn shopping bag) - and I covered up today's load of old bananas, smelly broccoli and moldy plums with birch leaves. After I threw in last night dinner leftovers.
