The low field experiment

By: Clenram
Apr 16, 2012
We were right that the soil is pretty fertile in the low field.  Everywhere I have watered something is growing...Mostly things you would not try to grow.  You can see in the second picture where I sit on my little stool and pull weeds.  I have to pull by hand to tell good plants from weeds.  You would be surprised how well some things that are mixed in the weeds are growing.  The cucumbers, noodle beans, onions, corn, tomato plants around the edges and okra are still doing well.  The peas growing in the first picture are pretty much dead accept the ones that still get a little shade.  I still enjoyed eating the few peas that grew straight from the garden.  Rori (East Texas) suggested that I they the peas again in December.  I think she is right. The very back part of the garden is doing better, because Jess added some dark dirt with lots of clay in it...this seemed to smoother some of the weed growth.  We will try something different down in this field when we plant the fall/winter garden!  We may even try the flame weed burner!    Well now you know that things are disorganized for sure at the Ramos'!

You're so lucky to have so much space to grow!  I keep daydreaming about ways I can expand my tiny garden without cutting back on the boys playspace...

@julia42:  Well I am mostly growing weeds here now.  :)  You should bring your boys over to play!  We could pull weeds!  :)

I'm also envious of all the space to garden!
