Mmmm..... Green sauce. There was a moment of silence in our family when I cracked open the last jar I had canned.

@RoriTx: Funny!  I hope I get enough to make a bunch of sauce.

@RoriTx: Yummy ... green sauce ...

I haven't even planted any tomatillos yet ... haven't decided if I am or not - last year I had 2 volunteers that did better than the ones I planted so I ended up with a lot more than I needed.
Clenram replied about 1 year ago
@vanna516: Did you make sauce?
JMTKMS replied about 1 year ago
I have never planted them, and have never eaten one... to my knowledge.  I have seen them, and always wonder about them, but that is as far as I have gotten.  Maybe next year. :)

@JMTKMS: They are very popular in South Texas.  I didn't see them growing up in New Mexico.  In New Mexico we made our green enchilada... from fresh Anaheim ... chili.  Here in south Texas they mostly use the tomatilloes to make green enchiladas ...I plant to make a hybrid recipe for green enchiladas using both.  :)

@Clenram:  Well, I think we are back to "I need a chef at my house".  I have never made green enchiladas and once again I am not sure I have even had one.  I like regular enchiladas... and I will assume they were not "green". :) :)  I guess we live a "sheltered" food life here.  We do go to the occasional Mexican or Chinese restaurant, and actually I have become okay at making egg rolls... but that is my foreign limit.

@JMTKMS: I have been real lucky.  I have always been exposed to different foods.  My best friend from 5th grade and roommate in college was from Mexico.  I actually traveled with her to Mexico a lot and we lived in towns in Mexico that were not tourist towns.  My grandmother and aunts were all great cooks and I had a home EconomicsÂ... that taught us to look at other cultures for food inspiratio.... I was lucky to marry Jesse who is a great cook too and our bi-cultural family... has taken so many things from both cultures..we would have say our food is hybrid.   I had a student from Egypt whose family cooked for me many times.  I had a friend from New York that taught me some fun things.  I have some Asian friends that love to show how to cook things.....and finally th... chef's specialty is ethnic foods.  Food is exciting around here.  You never know what you will get.  Although I have never been to New York, Washington DC, San Francisco, or Canada...I still think I get to taste a lot!    There are so many foods you would LOVE!  Variety is the spice of life.  :)

@Clenram:  You are "Food Blessed", and that sounds great to me.  I have always liked alot of foods, never being picky and always trying everything, but all in all its quite normal Western Washing... (what ever that means), but do plan to try a few things that I have learned about here on YGS, like Okra and Tomatillos... It should be fun.  Thanks for sharing!

What can you make with Tomatillos?
Clenram replied about 1 year ago
@Jentheo: green sauce, hot sauce, tomatillo sauce all kinds of enchiladas...people love them with beans on a tortilla.  We will let you know as we go with tomatillo this year.
