I am finally Back!

What a week!  Thursday after I got out of the doctors place and on the way home the rain began.  It was a hard rain and Jesse said the drive home was scary ...I don't know I was still out of it and slept through most of it.  The rain continued through Friday morning.  Wow it is great!  We nearly got 5 inches of rain.  Ponds that have been bone dry have something in them for the first time in several years.  I heard a frog chorus last night!  What a beautiful sound.  With the rain there was some wind and the internet has been down until this afternoon.   I can't wait to see what everyone is doing.  I have been picking more cucumbers mostly with a few okra coming along.  I nearly have enough to do another batch of pickles.  Jesse has been working on some more steps to go down to the low garden.  He was able to see the places the water wants to run over his various terraces.  He can tell where he needs to reinforce and where he needs to make some natural path ways.  His idea of a little drainage ditch at the lower end of the low garden worked and the garden did not go under water!  The weeds in the low garden have won the battle on several rows, but in some ways they have kept various insects away from the good crops.  The cucumbers and okra are doing well and my little corn is still doing well.  Some of the noodle beans seem to be holding their own too.  Happy growing Friends!

So glad to hear the hill country and south is getting rain! I know it's desperately needed still in many parts of our state!

@Sophora: I agree!

Glad to see you're back. 5 inches is a lot of rain! We just had 1 1/4 inches and I thought that was a lot.

@sreece: We need it so bad here.  I hope San Antonio finally gets out of some of the water restrictions.

Well, very glad to see you are back and doing well.  Glad that you are getting the rain you need, I hope it continues at a moderate rate. Getting five inches almost at once kinda sounds like a flood.  That bug you have posted is something else.... something else to remind me why I live in Washington.  That thing looks like a grasshopper bee with armor.  I never new there were so many pesky bugs... but they sure are colorful and almost fun to see, unlike our yucky black spiders.

PS.... John thinks it is an alien bug...  :) :)

@JMTKMS: John is funny!

YAY for your rain!!!  Things sure have started to grow fast since we got our big rain.... but unfortunately that includes the weeds as well.  So off to go outside for the day till the next round of rain starts - we want to get the new 'Mo's secret garden' edged and mulched.

@PYehl:  I look forward to seeing photos of the secret garden!

That bug looks like he means business!  I'm betting he's going to be eating alot.  I've never seen one of those.  If I do I'm going to catch him and feed him to the hens for a snack.

@CreativeGreenThu...:  have to hope he is not poisonous... :)
