May and we are still have cooler than normal weather! May 13, 2013
Activity-icon-status

We have had cooler weather and the tomato plants are doing well.  My hen still has 7 our of 8 babies following her around.  I found the one that didn't make it and it didn't have any marks or injuries I could find.  I have a picture of the fist sign of cucumbers.I have pulled most of the radishes out of the low garden so that... ...see more

I thought my hen was missing! May 12, 2013
Activity-icon-status

My hen has been missing for about a month.  Several times I thought I had seen her go under the shed but when I looked I saw nothing!  Imagine my surprise when I saw her this Mother's Day!  Check out the chicks!  5 yellow and 3 black!

Beautiful!  We'll be bringing up all the tropicals from the basement this week.  They'll go into the garage for about a week and then outdoors.
We got some RAIN! May 10, 2013
Activity-icon-status

What is that sound?

Something just hit the ground

It was wet and made puddles on ground

What is that sound

It was so loud that it shook the ground

A flash then and roar

I went in and shut the door

Could it be a rain storm here?

Wow it is! It finally rained...

Pick of the Day May 08, 2013
Activity-icon-status

My first squash and bunches of lettuce.  I only planted two squash plants so that I can watch them more closely.  I have already killed three squash bugs and found one leaf with eggs on it.

I have started the official squash bug on a pike display for 2013

I am amazed that you have fruit so soon. Your spring must come much earlier than Southern California. When did you put out your seeds or plants? When is your last frost date?

Hey there what are you doing on my cabbage plant?

Is that all you can say?

Chomp, Chomp, Chomp

He's gotta eat while the getting is good - once you find him, no more buffet!
JMTKMS replied 14 days ago
Oh gosh, time for the caterpillars.... The fun is just beginning! I hope you do not have to many of these, as it looks like he is big enough to do plenty of damage on his own.
Clenram replied 14 days ago
There seem to be a bunch but not bad I have plenty of lettuce to share.
Sunflower finally arrived May 06, 2013
Activity-icon-status

In August 2012 I planted lots of sunflowers thinking they would make great fall plants.  Only one flower bloomed.  Where did the others go?  Well, here they are in April and May blooming all over the place.

Hello Bee May 01, 2013
Activity-icon-status

Hello Bee
What did you say to me?
Don’t you wish you could be me?
Are you free like me?
Do you see the flowers as I see?
Can you fly so high above the tree?
Can you see the colors of the world like me?
Do you serve the queen like me?
I said to the bee
Can you think like me?
Are you free like me?
Can you help others to be free?
Can you...

My Silly Poem of the day... Apr 30, 2013
Activity-icon-status

She looks up at the trees
She feels the breeze
She begins to sneeze
She falls to her knees
She is attached by bees
She thought it was fleas
She found her keys
She decides to pick some peas
She is such a tease
She knows that you say stop!
Please!

Hibiscus flowers have made it through the winter! Apr 26, 2013
Activity-icon-status

For several days it has been cloudy and cooler with a few drops of rain.  I wish it would just rain for four or five days!  I need to go cut some lettuce.  The radishes in the low field are about done and I want him to plow the grass down there so I can try planting cucumbers again.

The summer before last I had a beautiful Hibiscus bush - the hummingbirds really liked it. Alas, I did not know that here in Kentucky you need to bring them inside for the winter, so, unfortunately, it die... more »

Lawn be gone Apr 20, 2013
Activity-icon-status

Jesse took out some of our lawn grass and made this growing place.  It is doing well with tomato, tomatillo, lettuce, nasturtium, a few noodle bean plants, and one two squash plants.  My idea was that it would be more like an english garden where the plants are mixed together.  So far so good..........

dreamwanderon replied about 1 month ago
Also...the grass goes to seed and when he cuts, it gets blown into my flower gardens and I have patches of grass to pull out. I used that as an example to cut the grass a little more often...but he has "selective" hearing !  ☼

Thanks Melissa for letting Liz and me take over your post !  Hahaha !  I have to go help Sam with the downstairs drain, now.  Oh boy !  ☼
