My Knock Out Roses survived their second summer surprisingly well. I have them on a drip system but used it sparingly to encourage them to grow deep roots. The border patrol is on the job.

This is the photo I've been waiting for !  Maybe give them a little more water now so they don't get stressed over the winter !  They look beautiful !  How do you like them?  Is your "border patrol" packing ?!  I don't know where the summer went...or even if we had summer !  Been lousy !   ☺

@dreamwanderon:I have tried for years to get something going in this spot that was low maintenance, hardy and beautiful.  I tried annual flowers, iris, and peonies. It all ended badly with burned up plants and waist high weeds. I think this is the solution.  They have really done well.  This is the west side of the house.  There is zero shade and it has been the hottest summer in years. I think they are bullet proof.  How are the ones you planted this summer doing?  Did you get in on any of the rain the east coast got hit with.  They got way more than they needed.  Too bad no one has figured out a way to spread the excess rain around.  We could could really use it.

@Dizzydog: It's been raining off and on for about a week. We are high up with no streams so we didn't get any of the flooding. The robins are gone already...some of the leaves have fallen off into the yard. I see Halloween decorations out...geesh...where did the time go ?!  My new carpet roses are doing good...they'll be blooming up until the flowers get frozen in time.  Did your pond hold up in the hot weather and lack of rain?   ♥ your chickens !...they're so cute !  Did you know that the co-founder of YGS...Lisa...passed away. Was very saddened about that !  She was always commenting on everybody's gardens. My hubby has a little native american in him...I'll have him do a little rain dance for you !   ☺

@dreamwanderon: All rain dances will be appreciated. We are about 6-8" short on rain this year. The drought here is is about as bad as it was during the 30's.  Farm practices are different, however, so we are not seeing all the dust that they saw back then.  The farmer across the road has given up on his milo. It didn't get enough rain to head out so he swathed it last week and is bailing it for feed tonight. Not a happy site.   I was sorry to hear about Lisa.  She and I chatted a couple of times. I had not realized that she was ill. She will be missed.  Envy you all that rain but I am glad to here that you missed the flooding.
