Propagation in December
Dec 20, 2011
|
It is never too late to
propagate. I just dug up 3 big clumps of my prized
primula, more lovingly called
cowslips.
Gertrude Jekyll taught me that
propagating primula is easy.
I will bring in this big bucket of primula to illustrate to the men, hands on, how to gently tease apart the tender roots and pot them up for winter. The divided plants will spend the freezing months in the cold frames but emerge ready to pop into the ground come spring.
I have also attached a photo of what they will look like in 2012. We divided these last year in class and then planted them at the prison garden.
PS Did you know that primula are evergreens? You can really see that now that it is December.
