Buy old flowers in the form of quilts for $4.99 at the Goodwill and take them home and bleach them in hot water and take a nap.

I even have my neighbors, friends and family shopping for Ruby's wedding.  Today's haul of flowers came from a local antique store by way of my friend Pam.  This wedding is going to have such charm with all these flowers.  I didn't have any cash so I traded Pam the plates for some prosecco and some pretty hand painted Eiffel... ...see more

Rescue something from the landfill.  I found this pristine pitcher in the trash yesterday. I know I will find a home for these fruits and flowers.  In fact, maybe I will put some flowers in it come spring and gift it to someone special.  I love to collect vases to give away with flowers.  Check out the lavender plums!

You know all that butternut squash I grew at the prison last year that no one wanted? Well I put it to work last night and made butternut squash risotto and a creamy butternut squash soup. Yumm.  We ate all the risotto in one sitting but I have enough soup to put away in the freezer for 3 more lunches.  For the soup I used... ...see more

Support the local economy, buy your flowers at the thrift store!  I went to the GoodWill in Davis Square this morning after a fantastic meeting with a colleague who might be a public partner with the prison program I run!  I felt like celebrating so I bought myself some flowers! ...see more

One way to bring the garden inside and to recycle our planet is to make napkins out of old fabric.  I found these gorgeous drapes on an island in Maine at the church thrift store, all you can fit into a bag for $2.   They were lined in creamy wool and had elaborate trim.  I ripped them all apart since they needed a good washing... ...see more

Keep composting every day all winter.  It might be dark and gloomy outside and bright and colorful inside like these pictures, but, inside the compost there is a worm party in full swing. They keep up a sweet cozy life in the compost all winter long.  Keep them fed. Garden every day for them.

On my way to the compost tonight I spied our bird feeder getting ready for another family! They had hauled this large strip of plastic from someone getting a new roof. You know how when your neighbor's get a new roof and all the detritus ends up in your yard, the nails, the old black shingles and all the strips of plastic from... ...see more

Use handkerchiefs instead of tissues.  They are prettier, have flowers and you don't have to support the destruction of trees to make them.  They are so tiny and lightweight they don't take up any room in a load of wash either.  Line dry so you don't have to iron unless you are like Mrs. Tiggywinkle and you enjoy that!  Enjoy... ...see more

Last year's calendar, this year's lampshade.  My niece gave me this gorgeous 2011 calendar last year for Christmas.  It was way too pretty to recycle in the bin so I made a new garden for my lamp.  Garden every day.

I try to garden somehow everyday.  Lately, I have been collecting china with flowers for an upcoming wedding.

How many place settings do you need?  Does she get all the pieces at the end?  What's less expensive piece you have bought?  The most expensive?  What a great idea!!!!!!

paper whites in time for the snow Jan 17, 2012

Just wanted to bring some mid winter cheer on this snowy day.  My paper whites are blooming. I even had enough to make a bouquet of fresh cut flowers for a nice friend.

Another beautiful day, more bulbs to pot Dec 13, 2011

Needed a couple of tools first, companionship of my dog Duke and some caffeine. ...see more
