@Liz:I like it when they get even bigger and still look good - I like for people to see what my sprouting system is capable of. It's cheaply made (in terms of cost), easy to maintain, and works well. It's one of the few parts of my system that I don't feel has a whole lot left to optimize. I think I've got it about right (other than the plant labels - I don't really like the Popsicle sticks, but I haven't been able to come up with anything better. My primary complaint with them is that they're wood and wood introduces stuff to the soil which is more likely to make dampening off an issue (which I do little to protect against). I never have big problems with dampening off, but I do lose a few here or there each year.)
@Gene: I have 2 greenhouses with 4 shelves that I set up in front of the north and east windows and then rig them up with light. I can keep it warm by zipping the plastic covers or open it when I feel the plants could use more air. That so far has worked for me. Queen_of_Green used plastic forks for labels and I copied her idea because I had lots of plastic ware.....I was able to clean out my cupboard by putting them to good use.
@Liz:Pasticware... It's a thought, but it would have to be really durable and wide enough to write on easily (knives maybe?) as I wouldn't want to risk it breaking off in the garden and then having to deal with making sure I picked up every last little piece at the end of the season because I didn't want it in the soil. I'll think about it and scout around to see what I find. Thanks.
@Gene: I'm just using the plastic ware for beginning pots. I did make wooden signs that I decoupaged seed packets to, but they take too much time and then I had to make new packets for the leftover seeds. I have a lot of wine bottles (I have collected.....there are only a few wines that I really like drink.....LOL) and I'm thinking of putting labels on them for the garden and then just sticking the necks in the ground or on a rebar stick.
