The flowers crowd together at the top of the flower stalk and even before they fade seed pods start to form at their base. The pods are softly prickly and look like they have their own small flower petal at one end. I suppose it's what's left of the stigma (the flower part with the job of catching and passing the sperm in the pollen to the eggs in the ovary).
