The bamboo sculpture (meant to hint at the skyline of the nearby Rocky Mountains?) from another angle. Photo by my daughter, Cornelia, who is marrying in three weeks.

Bamboo in Kyoto and Denver Aug 29, 2012

Denver Botanic Gardens is a lively place in a lively city. My daughter had a picnic there recently and sent a photo of a roaming sculpture made of timber bamboo split into splints and curved like torrents and eddies. It reminded me a lot of a bamboo workshop I visited in Kyoto years ago. The bamboo master, Mr. Nagawa, made timber... ...see more

Wish I could see the photos - even after several minutes, it just keeps spinning.

I've been seeing more and more fabulous things growing on chain link fences! This is beautiful! You are great at predicting my next question about how it will look :) Look forward to the pics.

Looks nice to me...but anything green looks great to me right now.  :)

We're brown too. There's a strange sound on the roof as I type. Rain?

Flower stalk or tree? Jun 20, 2012

My sister-in-law, Annie, lives in Virginia Beach, where the soil is sandy and the seashore climate must resemble parts of Morocco and Mexico, judging by the giant agaves that grow on Annie's street. The plants bloomed recently. Here are some photos. The corks save passers-by from spearing themselves on the leaf tips.

Love the cork idea!  Very considerate, and funny.  Giant agaves are strange-looking plants; I wonder if this is the same type used to make tequila?

shadyard replied 9 months ago
I'm glad you explained the corks...

Harlan's web site is inspiring. Be sure to visit.
Groundskeeper replied over 1 year ago
I'm glad you visited Harlan's web site. I believe the garden is open by appt. so if you're even in the area (just north of Berkeley, CA) try to see the place. It's astounding.

Thank you. I added another garden today but it doesn't seem to be here. Ah-ha, to see it you have to click on "Gardens far and wide."

Beautiful photo!  What a great composition.

Thank you. I was trying to put the beholder in the garden, like the fellows on the bench.
