Closer still. Each flower is half an inch across and the flower cluster is three inches tall. In a few days the cluster will stretch taller, making a little space between the flowers. The common name is Blue Star. When the flowers are fully open, as they are here, they look white with a faint tinge of blue, but earlier the buds are steel blue and the color lingers below the flower petals until the petals spread wide and hide it.
