The giant alliums have flowered and the intense purple of their petals is fading as the seed capsules grow larger. Soon the seeds will mature, fall, and sprout, which I don't want. The young plants are weeds; they're hard to pull up and dig up and there are lot of them. So I resolved to cut off the flower heads before they can drop seeds, even though they still look interesting, like a fireworks explosion on a pylon. I finished the job today and will send the flowerstalk to the city compost department.
