The gate at left is mainly symbolic. It divides in half the path that leads to the far end of the backyard. It also is a dual trellis, honeysuckle on the near side, clematis on the far side. When the vines cover the gate, it feels like a green passageway from one world to another. The big trellis in the background is for clematises, morning glories, honeysuckle and a wisteria. This photo is early in spring so the vines are barely growing. On the other hand the wisteria is in full bloom after eight years in the garen.

Beware of careful compositions. Saxon Holt, great garden photographer in the Bay Are, is on a crusade for authenticity in portraying gardens. This part of mine looks great here but when I amble around I have to compose the scene to appreciate its pleasures and temporarily overlook all the stuff that needs fixing, most of it out of the frame here.

@Groundskeeper:  I do the same...and who is Saxon Holt anyway.  :)
