Clematis durandii, with some stems to the top of the trellis, that is about six feet tall. There are buds at the tip of every stem and a few flowers open

Half-trained clematis

May 17, 2012
I vowed to tie up the stems of the Clematis durandii as they grew taller this Spring. They don't know how to hold on by themselves and they flop eventually if I don't tie them. I kept them tied until last week when I missed five days while most of the stems added another foot and buds. Curses, some of the stems flopped. It's tricky to straighten them up and tie them without breaking them. I tried, I tied up most of them but broke a few too.
This has been my most conscientious Spring ever and some of the stems have reached the top of the trells--first time ever. Someday, some year, I'll tie them up so regularly that the trellis will have flowers from top to bottom and side to side. Oh, joy!

Very beautiful!  Looks to me like quite a good job.  We tied our peonies up this year, but I am going to have to remind my husband to go and re tie some of them.  The weight with the buds is already starting to pull on the twine and stretch it out.  Once they bloom, all will be lost and the blooms will be on the lawn again.  I wish you luck on your Clematis, and know that I think this year has been a most conscienti... / season for a few of us....  and that is a good thing. :) :)

@JMTKMS: Thanks. I'm not too disppointed by my lapses this Spring. The vine looks better than ever but I can't help lamenting the three or four stems that flopped upside down.
My peonies need some support right now. Have to find my conscientiousnes....
