I checked my early photos. These tulips were open on April 2 and here they are today, April 25, more than three weeks later, finally starting to wither. During the three weeks, temperatures ranged from the low 30s to the low 50s. Apparently, refrigeration keeps them fresh a long time. (The weather in Holland in spring might be ideally cool for tulips?) There are  other bulbs in the garden that have bloomed for an uncommonly long time or taken a long time to appear. The weather has smiled on us. [Update: today, May 2, the petals are finally curling and falling--about half of them on each flower stem--so that's one month of bloom, thanks to cool weather. Next year, I'm going to try ice cubes.] :-)
