And here's the gift from the neighbor with the sycamore and white pine in his front yard, a big bag of pine needles. Now the question is, where to put them. It has to be a spot visible from inside the house, from the driveway, or from the deck out back. The reason for the pondering: pine needles make a very tidy, attractive mulch, a bed of them makes that part of the garden look special. So I'm thinking, out front where there's a broad curving bed of vinca that is wearing out its welcome after twelve years by creeping into the foundation and cracks in the pavers and out into the lawn. I will weed whack the vinca to the ground, cover it many sheets of newspaper, and cover the newspaper with my booty of pine needles. When I finish, I'll post a few photos. Many thanks to my generous neighbor.
