@Clenram: I guess the dry hot summers must be to much for it. It does seem to like dank, moist, water hanging in the air types of places. It really is such an odd plant. Thanks for the site about it. Its one of those odd things that are neat to know about.
Certain "mosses" are kin to pineapples. Spanish moss for one. But the hardy mosses that grow on seaside granite boulders in Maine are a different deal. Likewise the moss at the foot of this christmas cactus. Ah, botany! Infinite delights.
So many interesting things and so little time to learn it all. Thank goodness for friends to share information so we can all enjoy it! Thanks. PS, moss and pineapple really do not sound like they go together... learn something new every day!
@JMTKMS: I should have said "Spanish moss," the grey cobwebby plants that festoon oaks in hot, humid climates like Louisiana's. It is in the pineapple family. The many mosses that make soft green carpets are a different family altogether, akin to ferns.
@Groundskeeper: Amazing how something that seems so simple can really be such a complicated sub.... But, in the end, I do love moss.. Its just cool. :)
