Gorgeous! What a lovely shot! :)

Thanks, it really worked well since John had pretty much just finished., I kinda feel like it looks like a big sailing ship.  I really do love the view out the front window, Mt Adams is always a joy when you can see it, but this year the melon / bean garden should almost compete with the mountain.
Queen_of_Green replied about 1 year ago
@JMTKMS: That will be cool though! You are right, the bean poles look like masts on a ship....Sailing by Mt Adams! :) It looks great! :)

@Queen_of_Green:  Thanks.  It will be fun to try and get a similar photo when the bean poles are full.  I hope the get full.... the bugs seem to be really awful this year, I am really starting to get concerned.
Queen_of_Green replied about 1 year ago
@JMTKMS: I hope they will do well for you! If you see a lot of bugs take a spray bottle with one drop of Dawn or Lemon Joy dish soap and fill it with water, then spray the bugs with it... it works prett... well and it won't hurt you.
JMTKMS replied about 1 year ago
@Queen_of_Green:  Would you use that before using a garlic & hot pepper spray?  I am really new to bugs, I usually just share with them, and we are all happy.  But this year they are getting greedy.  Darn little bugs.  I am thinking we might have a rabbit, too.  I think maybe the cats are chasing it, but either way the damage from the rabbit eating or the cats tearing through the garden is taking its toll.  Kinda getting to "if it's not one thing, it is another!" .
Queen_of_Green replied about 1 year ago
@JMTKMS: I would use soapy water first, it's pretty effective!
Queen_of_Green replied about 1 year ago
@JMTKMS: Rabbits are another story all together! :(
JMTKMS replied about 1 year ago
@Queen_of_Green:  Sure, now you tell me.  I just sprayed with the garlic/pepper spray today.  I will watch it closely and see if I do need to do anything else.    Your really meant just one drop of soap in a spray bottle??  All these concoctions seem so "weak", but I guess bugs are really not very big.

@Queen_of_Green:  If the leaves disappear again, I will put milk jugs on them and see what that does.  hey, green beans, the leaves always turn yellow... what is your first guess?  We go back and forth, too much water, not enough water, now I am thinking fe...??
Queen_of_Green replied about 1 year ago
@JMTKMS: Usually yellow leaves are a signal that there is uneven watering, either too much or too little water can stress the plants. Sometimes, if the entire plant is yellowing, it can also be caused by an iron deficiency. It won't hurt to use an organic vegetable fertilizer on them, and try to water evenly through the season if you can.
Queen_of_Green replied about 1 year ago
@JMTKMS: The garlic/hot pepper spray will probably repel the rabbits... :) One or two drops of dawn in a spray bottle of water is usually all it takes to soften the insect’s waxy protective outer shell and they die.
JMTKMS replied about 1 year ago
@Queen_of_Green:  Thank you.  The beans seem to have the same problems every year.  I am now thinking that it could easily be the un even watering.  We do not have a very even system, though I am working one.  I will check into getting an organic fertilizer.. and or look up what to mix together.  I just hate the little leaves being yellow.  It makes me sad, but not as sad as when the leave disappear.  Thank you.
JMTKMS replied about 1 year ago
@Queen_of_Green:  Well, the site I went to said "bug repellent", but if it repels rabbits I will not argue one bit.  Wow, this thinking while gardening is really beginning to take its toll on me.  :)

@JMTKMS: You are very welcome! I like composted chicken manure or Dr Earth Veggie food... They both work well for me.
Queen_of_Green replied about 1 year ago
@JMTKMS: LOL! Just don't think and drive! :)
JMTKMS replied about 1 year ago
@Queen_of_Green: Dr. Earth veggie food, is this a liquid  and should I find it at any nursery or store with plants?  I am guessing that I could just clean my chicken coop and get some pretty well broke down manure, right?  I am not sure of the time frame required before manure can be put on plants... I will check on that.  I appreciate your help and advice.  :)
JMTKMS replied about 1 year ago
@Queen_of_Green:  Thanks, I will try to be safe.  :) :)
Queen_of_Green replied about 1 year ago
@JMTKMS: Dr Earth is a granular plant food that is organic and slow release. You can put in in the planting holes or beds at the time of planting, or side dress with it on established plants. A lot more nurseries are carrying it now.
I wouldn't use chicken manure right out of the coop, it is really hot and can burn the roots of the plants. I would wait and till it into your garden in the fall and let it compost all winter in your garden. You will have some very nice fertile soil next spring!

@JMTKMS: You're welcome. :)

@Queen_of_Green:  I found it!  I was looking for your reference to Dr. Earth, and finally, after a half hour of searching, here it is.... off to the store!
Queen_of_Green replied about 1 year ago
@JMTKMS: LOL! See, your memory isn't so bad! :)
JMTKMS replied about 1 year ago
@Queen_of_Green:  Fortunately, I had the time frame in which we had spoken, and I just had to look up every picture on your site and mine.  No memory required, just a computer.  Still kinda scary, but at least I found it.  I am hoping my little plants will be happy campers!

@JMTKMS: Lol! Your plants should be happy campers in no time! :)

@tieramaza:  As long as we do not get a bee swarm on them this year, we will be happy.  :)

JMTKMS replied about 1 year ago
@asarsfieldgarden...:  Thanks bud, I (marcy) really like it the best.  Just reminds me of a "ships sails".  Not sure why that is so interesting to me, but I just love it.

they look like the cable bridge at night
JMTKMS replied 11 months ago
@larry:  Gee, they do.  We always feel like they look like the masts of a ship.  The beans are growing nicely on them now.
