Thank you.  It was a real treat to get so much from the garden.  The rice is mixed with whole wheat that came from the field behind us a year and a half ago, plus we seasoned with ground dried tomatoes and onion tops from last year.   The cow was raised by our landlord, who is kind enough to share and it was cooked with a fresh walla walla sweet onion from the garden.  The salad was a nice mix of spinach and romaine from my new salad garden.  All in all, it was a happy meal and we all enjoyed.

Hmm...good idea to cook wheat and rice together. I think I'll try it. A local farmer friend from church gave us a bunch of freshly harvested wheat a couple of weeks ago. We are blessed!

@sreece:  I love foods with a crunch.  I love nuts in everything.  I put a handful of whole wheat or barley in every pot of rice I cook.  It just gives it a little texture!  My family is used to it, others either like it or they don't, but it is the only way I cook rice.  I love it!  Some times I will mix white rice, brown rice, wild rice and whole wheat (or barley), to make a great side dish.. add a little garlic butter and voila, yummy!

You better hope some are left.  They are really good, so I am planting a whole row and a half more of them.  :)

eh, if there are none left then i don't have to try them.  haha!  i've heard mixed things about them, so i've never eaten one.

@tieramaza:  Lot's of older people were forced to eat a lot of different "root" crops since they were cheap, I guess carrots were not included, just beets, turnips parsnips etc.  I guess it made alot of people just not like them "because".  I really love them, always have, always will.  :)
