@SweetDomesticity...: I just hope the bees stay out this year. Last year we lost one of our bean poles to a swarm of bees. In order to capture (to move) the swarm, they had to cut the beans down. It was a sad loss, but we were glad to save and move the bees.
@SweetDomesticity...: I hope so too, but I do not mind the bees swarming somewhere else in the yard. Our cousins put the last ones in a hive (all 2500+) and we should get some honey from them. That will be fun.
@SweetDomesticity...: Funny, when I was growing up I really did not like the flavor of honey, but somewhere that changed and I love it now. I do plan to keep bees in the future... but it can wait till we are really ready for them.
@JMTKMS: I'd love to keep bees as well. I keep asking my husband if the city ordinance allows bees (he's on the city council) and he just shoots me a big NO. I'm going to keep working on him though :)
@JMTKMS: Actually, I don't know if the city ordinance allows it or not - my husband is just being a little hard to convince that bees would be a good idea at our current location. He's all for it if we ever get that 5 acres just outside of town we sometimes talk about :)
@SweetDomesticity...: I never thought about having them in the city, but since I have been on YGS I have found it interesting that there are many people keeping a couple bee boxes in their back yards. I guess if bees live in trees and "what ever" in and out of the cities... why not in a box in your back yard. It really is a safer location, as no one will accidentally step on the bee hive and get stung ( I did that, as a child).
