Wow ... sorry for the invasion.

yikes... knock on wood that is one bug I haven't had issues with - I feel your pain - I'm in full revenge attack war with my bugs here....... my ammo is on order and should be delivered soon.
JMTKMS replied 11 months ago
@PYehl:  What did you go with?  You ordered good bugs, right?  I thought of you when I came in to get my bucket of soapy water, to drop the infested leaves in, after I squished as many as I could.  Feeding some to Clara really made me feel good.  She munched them right down.  :)

Thanks.  I pulled out two plants because they were so infested, and I fed them to Clara, the cow, made me smile!!!    I will be spraying the others with the garlic hot pepper spray..... and praying alot.  These bugs are the ones I dread the most every year, they refuse to let me grow things that they like....  :(

@JMTKMS:  every time I'm outside i keep telling the hens "eat the yellow bugs.......yellow bugs!!!"   I don't think they listen very well tho...  grasshoppers are bad this year too - its funny when the hens try to ea them and they run across the yard chasing them!!

@PYehl:  Our chickens usually have the run of the garden, but this year they were being particula...... but I think everything is grown enough, that maybe we can let them back in... I would love them to eat the bugs.  :) :)  Heck, I don't care if they eat the plant too, but get the dang bugs!
PYehl replied 11 months ago
@JMTKMS:yep thats how I feel too - i'm like eat a few maters ok...no biggie just EAT THE BUGS!!!!  =)   I let some lettuce out there go to seed that they like to nibble on too... they love the goat bedding pathways - they scratch and find all sorts of something in the paths...  probably the good things tho like worms.  =/  YELLOW BUGS GIRLS..... YELLOW bugs!!!!
JMTKMS replied 11 months ago
@PYehl:  Now, you keep saying yellow bugs... are most yellow bugs bad?? or are you just referring to the cucumber beetle?  I am happy to say, but feel bad saying it to you, that we have not seen any of those... and hope to keep it that way.  We did see squash bugs once, but they came in late part of the season and they didn't hurt anything... they all just hung out on the zucchinis and mated... then they were gone, and the plants did great the whole time.  Strange.  We did not even know what they were, we just noticed that they did not hurt anything so we did not bother them.
PYehl replied 11 months ago
@JMTKMS:yep mainly cucumber beetles.  have issues with a few other bugs too - but the cuc beetles are the hardest to control this year...  they fly too quickly and they lay the eggs underground - so its not like the squash bug where I can easily monitor and remove eggs as I've found them.  We have run into a lot of them too - but i've come up with a way to search & destroy and seems to be working quite well and its a very cheap remedy.  Flea Beetles are another pain this year - hopefully my nematodes that are coming today will help with those as well (says it should).  Need to get out and dust with more DE too.
JMTKMS replied 11 months ago
@PYehl:  I will be anxiously awaiting your report on the nematodes.. I hope they really work well.

@JMTKMS:  Thanks - I can't wait till they get here today!!!  The adult cucumber beetle sticky traps should be here tomorrow.  And my squash bug attack seems to be having success...  less and less are found during daily flooding - and less & less eggs found on leaves.  yay!

@PYehl:   Take good notes... you can write an Organic Bug Killer Methods book... by the time this season is over...  :) :) :)

How delightful :(  We get a ton of aphids in the master gardner office.
JMTKMS replied 11 months ago
