Can't remember how to tell the difference between a moth and a butterfly, I feel like it has some thing to do with the body shape or size... but oh well, I guess it must not be that important. Losing my memory is really driving me nuts... wish I could forget how crazy it drives me! :) :)
@Clenram: Well, other than there are many exceptions to all of the rules of how to tell the difference, I believe this is a moth?? Not sure, but I will go with it! I need to see his feet! John took the picture so all I know is what I see here. :) :)
@Clenram: I was thinking moth because the antenna looked more feathered, rather than club. I guess John says that it did sit with the wings up, so maybe it is a butterfly. Gosh, I guess it is pretty either way, as long as it is garden friendly, I am okay with it. :)
I agree, but I am very curious. I keep watching to see if I can find another one. I did not take this picture, so I don't really know how it looked... need to see its legs. Funny, but I really do love the butterflies and the moths. They are just so interesting, and I killed so many when I was young and thinking I was "saving" them. From what? I do not know.
if it's a moth, are they bad for the garden? i don't really know the difference and i had no clue that you could tell the difference by the legs. kind of interesting!
@tieramaza: I know I knew all this as a kid, but my memory is letting me down. I goggled it, and it reminded me of a few things. Moths are more harmful, as I understand it, but that is not to say that they all are or that all butterflies are not. They all eat leaves, guess it just depends which ones. :)
