Positive thinking, that is the answer to most troubles... :) :)  I am happy with my garden every year.  Every year we loose something, but gain something else.  This year the broccoli was absolutely wonderful, and I would not change that for anything.  So, come what may, my garden is already a success in my eyes... (not sure about John... he is really counting on those melons!)   :) :) (less)

Well, my kids call them carrot posers... and they love them just like carrots.  I have not had a turnip in years and years, so I cannot remember what they taste like.  Gosh, I am not very good at comparing... to me, with a little butter, salt and pepper they taste like Thanksgiving!  That is when my Mom would get them each year and they quickly became my favorite.  I suppose they are kinda like carrots with a sweet potato texture with a hint of spice.  :) :) (less)

We have really considered ourselves lucky to not have many bugs. And, even with the addition of all of these guys we still feel fortunate, as we know alot of you have been battling much worse.  We will hope the squash bugs do not find us... but guess we will wait and see.  We mixed some garlic hot pepper spray today and hope that it will help the lettuces.  Probably wouldn't hurt to spray the squash too.  :) (less)

Really, do you think the ants eat the aphids?  I was reading that the ants actually raise the aphids and put them on the plants so they can harvest some sweet stuff the aphids make...  ???  I have lots and lots of ants, but I did not get any aphids yet, but I heard someone say they come with warmer weather... maybe my ants are saving them till then, and sadly... then is now, as the warmer weather is here.  We have been in the high 80's to mid 90's for a few days, and the weather is expected to last for awhile longer... I am so not wanting the aphids to come.  I can really handle just about any bug.. but aphids are just too much.  when we get them there are always so many, that what ever they choose to eat, we just let them have it.  I have tried spraying soapy water on them, but I swear ours just use to clean up before eating the plant some more....  I really dislike them.  :( (less)

The harvest was wonderful, we picked many wonderful veggies.  We were sad, at the same time for all the bolted carrots we had to pull.  Clara was very happy to eat them, but we still would have preferred to be picking them for us.  We were also sad to pull the broccoli, as it was done producing.  It was our best year for broccoli and we are very thankful.   (less)

All of which made the weeds just take off.  The kids were awesome help today, they jumped right in and helped get the main garden all caught up.   I sure hope they realize just how helpful they were ....   (less)

The juice is good by itself, but much better mixed with something else.  If you read the labels on store bought juice, you will notice that pears are in most all of them.  It just has a nice mild... more »

The juice is good by itself, but much better mixed with something else.  If you read the labels on store bought juice, you will notice that pears are in most all of them.  It just has a nice mild flavor that blends well with everything else.  We mix it with apples, grapes and anything else we can find.  The kids love it! We, as first, thought we had zucchinis and Crooks on the same plant... then we realized that it was two plants planted right on top of each other.   It is really interesting now, the Zucchini's are growing with crooks in them, and the Crooks are growing straight...  Too funny.  We have planted these two, side by side for years... funny what a difference it makes when planted on top of each other.
