So much fun...my kids have been having a blast with this too. Leads to fewer cavities than a lemonade stand!

Like the little dog in the bag.  How much?
Ian's Farm Stand Aug 21, 2012
Activity-icon-status

We took Ian's Farm Stand to Gary's house today. A better location with a bit more traffic and neighbors. He shouted "fresh vegetables" at every car that passed. We were successful in explaining that $2.00 a pound for the heirloom tomatoes was a reasonable price. He declared, "what it weighs is what it costs," for everything else.... ...see more

So many learning opportunities in just that one small activity

How fun!

That sounds great!  We would have a stand, but we do not have any traffic.  Oh well, guess we will just "can" it!  :)
TOMATOES! Aug 17, 2012
Activity-icon-status

The tomatoes are exploding!
I picked 3 1/2 pounds of SunGold and Red Pear this morning! Leaving the larger tomatoes on the vine for Ian's FarmStand.

PrinceSnow replied 9 months ago
Great harvest. I would like to put out tomatoes in a little stand...I'm just a little lost on pricing.
sreece replied 9 months ago
I have found that people are willing to pay what you are asking just to get decent home grown tomatoes that have some flavor! My baseline for the farmers market on cherry tomatoes is $4.00 per pound and $2... more »

I spent about 15 minutes in the garden today. Just enough time to pick green beans and bring the bunny into the house. She's now living in the bathtub until we figure out a new indoor living arrangement or it cools off!

Clenram replied 9 months ago
I think you should post a picture of the bunny in the bathtub!
Dragon Flies Aug 12, 2012
Activity-icon-status

Today there were about ten dragon flies working in the Asparagus and the beans. Made me happy, but wow, they aren't easy to photograph!

PrinceSnow replied 9 months ago
They are as tough to photograph as hummingbirds
RoriTx replied 9 months ago
I LOVE dragonflies. When we go on our river float in Arkansas every year there are so many different kinds that follow the water. They just swarm around you, landing everywhere on you. It's one of my favor... more »

We have green and blue ones that I am always trying to photograph them with no luck!

Trip To The Seed Bank Aug 11, 2012
Activity-icon-status

We stopped by the Seed Bank on our way home from the beach. It is always such a treat! I picked out parsnip, carrot, cabbage, cauliflower, and swiss chard seeds as well as locally grown garlic. Excited to get it all in the garden!

PrinceSnow replied 9 months ago
Oh this place seems like a dream! I think I would be lost in there for hours...and I'd spend half my paycheck.
sreece replied 9 months ago
Sounds like lots of fun.

How fun!
iSee Sprouts! Aug 10, 2012
Activity-icon-status

We spied the very first of the lettuce sprouting and a couple of the kale plants. LOVE all of the potential in those tiny spots of green breaking through the soil.

PrinceSnow replied 9 months ago
Is this your fall garden? Our kale was eaten by a groundhog, so I'll live through you for a while.

Am I the only one who feels guilty when I leave the garden for a short summer get away? Only one night away to avoid a REALLY hot day, but still feeling that strange shouldn't be away feeling!
PrinceSnow replied 9 months ago
Yes! My sister stayed at our house....but I felt as bad leaving the garden as leaving the dog, and I was only gone 2 nights!
Harvest and Can Aug 09, 2012
Activity-icon-status

I picked 12 pounds of tomatoes today and turned them into 10 pints of tomato sauce. The first canning from the garden of the season! LOVE having them all taken care of and ready to store for the winter.
There will be lots more. Tomatoes are doing really well.

Queen_of_Green replied 9 months ago
Oh... I am so jealous! Good for you though... :-)
SweetDomesticity replied 9 months ago
Sounds like a very productive day!  I can't wait to cook down the first pot of sauce here - love how good the house smells!
PrinceSnow replied 9 months ago
Sounds wonderful. The fruits of your labor!

Ian is kicking off his farm stand tonight for National Night Out. Excited for his seven year old success ;)
PrinceSnow replied 9 months ago
That is fabulous! I would like to start a little one in the driveway! Is pricing difficult?
SweetDomesticity replied 9 months ago
How fun!  Did he do well?
Prepping the winter garden Aug 07, 2012
Activity-icon-status

Cleared the lettuce and beet bed today. Prepped it and planted onion, carrot, and lettuce seeds.
Planted bean seeds in an experiment to see if they will grow by Thanksgiving.
Planted seeds of kale, broccoli, and brussels sprouts.
Shea started building Ian's vegetable stand. Our version of the lemonade stand!

PrinceSnow replied 10 months ago
Oh we have a little veggie/lavender stand too! In fact, one customer said to my daughter: "I'm so glad this isn't another  lemonade stand!"
MaryLarson replied 10 months ago

I've been throwing around the idea of a winter garden too. What is the lastest date a person can plant by you? Will enjoy following your posts.

Katrina replied 10 months ago
I'm really fortunate Mary. I can direct seed something in the garden year round. My winter garden will be greens, broccoli, spinach, and lettuces. We are going to experiment with hoop houses some this wint... more »
