Sun glorious sun! Basil and parsley are still a bit teeny, thyme is sticking its head above the ground. But in the garden the turnips and broccoli have sprouted! And we have volunteer chamomile and gourd/pumpkin. Not sure which one it's going to be as yet

Can't believe I had my first lettuces in a week from now latst year. Not even sown the lettuces yet this year. Sprouts, broccoli, peppers, carrots all in. Next week beans, peas and the lettuces.

Oh I hope we don't get an early winter this year...but the mild winter of 11/12 didn't lead to an early spring just a lot of wet. Mind you the hawthorn, which is due to blossom from midMay is blossoming at... (more) |

Still cold but we've decided we don't care anymore. Flower seedlings out of the greenhouse, herbs started. Beetroot planted out in the veggie patch. Will start seeding from next week on a rotation basis with some veg still in the greenhouse. Hope for a lo

cleaned up the greenhouse last weekend and put in another planting table. we're going to start some early violets and petunias to sell to the neighbors. Might just start some vegetables early as well - any tips what I can seed for the greenhouse? Spinach

Pumpkin gave me 5 liters of mashed pumpkin...all in the freezer for pumpkin soup during the winter. Yum. Have two compost beds going - one near the toad pool for Mr. Toad and his friends to bury themselves in this winter. One in the easily disposable bag.

| Very impressive. It cannot be easy to grow pumpkins in the Netherlands. I was born and raised there, but now the Eastern Shore of Maryland has become my home. We have a very nice, long growing season. |

Initially told the ground was polluted...but never say never to someone from the East Coast. Had a soil test done and just to be on the safe side we started modestly with a patch of 6 x 6 feet which we dug down 2,5 feet and filled in with fresh top soil. The perils of a vegetable patch at a small city farm is the roaming chickens and odd roaming goat who break in. Year one and due to the nitrate rich soil we kept to broccoli, tomatoes, lettuces and beans. Year two we expanded with a greenhouse, proper fence and included brussels sprouts, eggplant, flowers for the bees, pumpkins and carrots. Now in the 3 years...
