Sad day! Moving! I can't use the ground I was at anymore and have to move. We have started the clear out and have a shed until a new location is found for a spring start. I think I'll miss the animals the most.

Potatoes - got one huge bucket out of the 5 plants. Is that good? Made some scrumptious garlic mash which turned into potato pancakes very nicely

| Yep, sometimes we sacrifice when we don't use chemicals. I've lost a few things over the years too....wish the whole world was with us on this! |

Caterpillars! Darn. Saw those cute little white butterflies floating around last week. Who knew that broccoli is such a great nesting place...had a few broccolies almost ready to harvest, and now I have stumps...

Know what grows nicely next to a duck pond? A purple buddleia! The poor thing was withering out back but we transplanted, cut back ferociously and now we have lovely purple flowers.

Initially told the ground was polluted...but never say never to someone from the East Coast. Had a soil test done and just to be on the safe side we started modestly with a patch of 6 x 6 feet which we dug down 2,5 feet and filled in with fresh top soil. The perils of a vegetable patch at a small city farm is the roaming chickens and odd roaming goat who break in. Year one and due to the nitrate rich soil we kept to broccoli, tomatoes, lettuces and beans. Year two we expanded with a greenhouse, proper fence and included brussels sprouts, eggplant, flowers for the bees, pumpkins and carrots. Now in the 3 years...
