Tomato volunteers - but what's the variety?

By: Kristen
Aug 13, 2012
About a month ago I noticed a volunteer tomato plant sprouting amongst a line of marigolds.  It held tough and even began fruiting.  Now I have some ripe tomatoes that I don't recognize.  They are somewhat square and orangey red (maybe they'll be more red if I let them ripen up a bit more.  Usually I plant sweet 100s, sungold, or yellow pear tomatoes, so these ones that popped up are a mystery to me.  Can anyone help me out with identifying the variety?  Thanks!

To me they resemble sweet 100s the most, but they may have picked up some pear genes along the way.  Congrats on your find!

I'm afraid I don't have much insight into the ID, but they are cute little tomatoes!

How nice is that!

They are lovely whatever they are ... also think they may be a little mix.

To me they look about like some kind of Roma tomato-like San Marzano maybe or something similar.

I think they look a lot like a plum tomato, but more square.

I think we are all on the right track...Roma/plum...it's the dimples that are throwing me off.  I've never grown a tomato with that type of indentation.  Well, I suppose that all there is to do now is just admire them and appreciate the gift!  :-)

Could they be a large grape variety?  They look just like my grapes except slightly bigger.
