I just registered at the
ACGA conference in NYC!!! Looking forward to tomorrow's discussion regarding how social media helps and supports community gardening and parks...with Ray Oladapo-Johnson (
Emerald Necklace Conservancy) and Mike Mennonno (
Fenway Victory Gardens). Is anyone else attending the conference?
About ACGA
Founded in 1978, the
American Community Gardening association is a 501(c)3 membership
organization serving individuals and organizations that support
community gardening and greening in urban, suburban and rural
communities across the US and Canada.
The ACGA focuses on
creating sustainable communities by promoting edible and ornamental
gardening, education, urban parks and forestry management, open space
preservation and sustainable community planning.
We perform this work by:
- Facilitating regional, national and international networks
- Encouraging research, inquiry and evaluation
- Improving organizational effectiveness through education and training
- Publishing periodicals and resource materials
- Serving as a hub for community gardening activities, funding and mentorship
Community
gardening improves the quality of life for people by acting as a
catalyst for neighborhoods and community development, stimulates social
interaction, encouraging self-reliance, beautification and conserving
resources. Community gardening also helps families and communities
secure access to nutritious food, reduces family food budgets and
provides an outlet for recreation, skills development, exercise, therapy
and education.
We invite you to join us in our good work of supporting community garden leaders and future leaders by becoming a member today…
