Saturday was a productive garden cleanup outing.  I cleared the beds of leaves and other small compostable leftovers from the 2011 gardening season.  I freshened up the Irises and Black-Eyed-Susans that are now just emerging from the soil.  I thinned out one Lilac and pruned back a few Roses of Sharon.  I pulled up the spreading raspberry shoots and pruned back the remaining raspberries.  The herb bed needed some tending - I cut back the returning Thyme, Oregano, and Mint - and pulled up lots of mint runners (it gets into everything!). 
What I have to show for all the bending, pulling, and pruning are a pair of socks with soil outlines (the first of many this season) and a very sore body (it is Monday and I am still pretty achy!).
