onions from my garden neighbor

Season of Giving has commenced

Part of gardening (and especially community gardening) is about sharing.  I was reminded of this the other week when my garden neighbor Arthur gave me some onions that he had planted last year - just now ready to be plucked from the ground.  As he is more of a veggie gardener, I gave him some jonquils and tulips - he pointed out the ones he liked and I happily cut them for him.  This past week he gave me some leeks and as always he offered some rhubarb (as soon as I find an interesting recipe I'll take him up on that offer).  I am sure that there will be plenty more sharing to come as our plants grow to healthy sizes and harvest time nears.

I make crisp out of most kinds of fruit; I bet a rhubarb crisp would be tasty... or strawberry-rhubarb; maybe with chopped almonds added to the topping? It is fun to be part of a gardening community. And helpful to have folks to water your plants when you are out of town...

@krandolph:Thanks for the ideas.  Some friends were recently out in Sonoma/Napa and picked up The All American Cheese and Wine Book (by Laura Werlin) for me, and it has a recipe for honey-rhubarb compote (see photo #3) ...thought it would be worth a try as well
