We've been busy, in and out of the garden. We are into our summer garden which consists of mostly a variety of field peas, pumpkins and winter squash, okra, sweet potatoes and corn. Been busy working on getting old boxes down on the garden paths then covering with pine and leaf litter. My winter squash need some comfy places to run! And I need to not have volunteers popping up around my beds to be cut or pulled endlessly. It does make the garden look good and well groomed. Still have to fix up some... ...see more |

We've about finished planting for spring. Our new tries this year are kohlrabi, fava beans and artichokes. Our formal kitchen garden is about 1300 sq ft of raised bed growing space but the fenced in area is about 60 ft x 60 ft. Three of the five main bed through the middle of the garden have hoops installed so we can provide some protect for the plants during winters and the heat of the summer. It is a mix of perennials and annuals with some herbs. We also grow fruit around the remainder of the cleared property (2 acres are wooded & will remain so), herbs near the house and the most of the tomatoes each year are grow near the porch for easy access! We grow heirloom and some hybrid, save our seeds and preserve...
