I have a cabin and three acres in Eastern WA and am fairly new to gardening. I planted a small container garden in 2011 to see if I could even do it and found it to be very enjoyable and rewarding. I am just starting my gardening journey and will needs lots of help from the more experienced gardeners. I am a vegetable gardener and will be using raised beds and square foot gardening. My zip code tells me I'm in zone 6a, but my neighbors tell me it's more like 4b thanks to the cooler temps and shorter season out here. I'm on the north slope of a mountain at 2,300 ft. Our growing season is about May 1 to Oct 1.

Green Kathleen's Chicken Junction Arlington, TX

My garden began with one raised bed.  I grew up in Ohio where you could pretty much stick a plant in the ground and it would grow.   I now live in Texas where the "soil"  is not soil.   Its clay.  I think they...
