Hi Liz: I wasn't able to comment underneath your request, so here it is. First, thank you SO much for thinking of me. I am very flattered you thought of me. I only worked at getting signatures for Prop 37, which was our labeling proposition. It failed, but not by much - and over 6,000,000 millions Californians voted for it! Some things I'd consider: 1. Make this about our right to know - hiding info is Un-American. 2. Don't talk about the negative effects of GMOs in print (but do talk to individuals who are considering signing the petition) 3. Ask the question - if this food is perfectly safe, then what's the problem? Why the secrecy. Please know that if you get this on the ballot that the big guns are going to hit hard and strong. We originally were winning almost 3 to 1 in the beginning, but after Monsanto, Bayer, General Mills, Kelloggs, etc. spent 47 million dollars in the last month and saturated the TV commercials, we lost. Feel free to check out my Facebook page - I have lots of info on GMOs. Also check out GMO Free Seattle; Label it WA; Occupy Monsanto and Organic Consumer, which are just a few of the organizations that are fighting to get quality labels. A BIG thing that the large corporations are going to talk about is how expensive it'll be for them to print new labels and that they'll have to pass this on to the consumer. Remind them (and your potential signers) that they already do this in over 50 countries and there's no reason they can't do it here. There's also a revolving door between Monsanto and FDA & Dept. of Agriculture. Unfortunately, Obama is the one who put them in these positions, so you can't consider him a friend. Please let me know how this goes and feel free to ask any questions. Contact me at nellcentralcoast...@gmail.com Best of luck! Will be thinking of you!

Hey, Liz thanks for checking out my garden. I think I would like to follow your gardensI noticed that you where a teacher  what grades  I also work as a sub Teacher  and an Educational assist. I work with behaviorally challenged children, I have done this for the past 34 years in the same school and I love it .   Thanks Lola
Liz replied about 1 year ago
@loveylola: Hi.....I've taught 1st through 5th grades and 9th grade English.  At the beginning of my career, I taught mostly 1st grade and before I retired I taught 4th grade for the last 12 years.  I enjoyed teaching school and even started a school garden with the children. Working with children is interesting.....you never know what they are going to do or say.  I think I left at the right time.....I can look back and have fond memories of teaching.  In our state they are trying to privatize the schools, pay teachers and other employees less, and treat it like a business to make a profit.  So now I spend most of my time working in my garden or visiting my 3 sons who all live out of state.  I enjoyed visiting your garden this morning.  It sounds like we have a lot in common.        Liz

Liz replied about 1 year ago
@MaryLarson: Thank you!  I'm very passionate about my garden.
MaryLarson replied about 1 year ago
@Liz: I'm in Wisconsin so we should have similar weather patterns. I love gardens but I do not have a lot of time because we run a used tire business. I do what I can. I just put in a new garden by my backdoor entrance so I can keep a better eye on things. Otherwise, I tended to get in my garden when it was already a little too late to pick the particular veggie. My husband is trying his hand at beekeeping too.
Liz replied about 1 year ago
@MaryLarson: I understand about time in the garden.  I retired from teaching a couple of years ago, so I have lots of time in the garden now.  When I taught I didn't do nearly as much as I do now.  That is a good idea to have your veggies where you can see them.  I meant to pick our asparagus and kept forgetting.  Now it's too late.  This was going to be the first year for actual picking.....so we'll have to wait until next year.  Good luck with the bees.  Since we have honey, I am using less and less sugar.
purplewashermonkey replied about 1 year ago
Of course, I'd like to have everything . . . peaches, pears, plums, lemons and apples.  Have to source them out yet and see what will grow best here.  I don't know anyone locally with fruit trees, but they must be out there.  That salad bowl is really for two of us, but we get through it in about 3 days.  Makes it easy to grab when you're hungry.
I see you and dreamwanderon commenting on the GMO stuff that's been happening.  I've read lots and watched all the movies I can find online about our "controlled" food sources. It's going to take "we, the people," to get things turned around, and there's been some great fighters out there.
Liz replied about 1 year ago
@purplewashermonk...: I've been reading labels for years because my husband can't have anything with gluten or MSG.  I'm amazed at what is in our food.  Then add GMOs to all that.  It annoys me to no end that our government allows us to be guinea pigs for the GMO industry.  You've read my comments on dreamwanderon's glog so you know how I feel.  I'm doing what I can to spread the word, but sometimes it just doesn't seem enough.  this needs to be stopped before it is too late.
purplewashermonkey replied about 1 year ago

It got a good response and thanks for all your great Garden Inspirations!  Here's the text of the post: 'Garden Inspirations' is Liz's series of garden adventures outside her own backyard. She reports on her trip to Proven Winners Consumer Day in Michigan this week, which is a gardener's treat - and also like seeing the future since many plants that won't be available until next year. Check out her photos - and if you're nearby next year, mark your calendar.

@Onie: Thank you....also that is very kind of you to offer seeds, but I did order quite a few different kinds of poppy seeds from a place called One Stop Poppy Shoppe....I'm afraid I got a bit carried away and ordered too many different kinds....maybe in the fall if I'm successful we could trade seeds.
