Progress on the St. Mary Organic Garden Mural

By: Liz
Apr 17, 2012
Lots of progress was made on the mural today. Yesterday's drawing was traced over in black permanent marker. All the background colors were painted by my husband and he finally let me paint the pumpkins so I could have something to do!  Tomorrow painting helpers will start painting in the rest of the parts and then we will work on details and shading.

How exciting!
Liz replied about 1 year ago
@puckamok: I think it is especially since our house belonged to the St. Mary's Working Farm at one time.

It should look great. I can't wait to see it.

@RoriTx: We figure the painting part should be finished by the end of next week!

This is really cool. I'm very familiar with the IHM Motherhouse and St. Mary's Church. However, I don't get the connection between the two as I thought they were separate. Can you shed any light on this?
Liz replied about 1 year ago
@KR: I don't think there is a connection between St. Mary's Church and the IHM Motherhouse.  The IHM (Immaculate Heart of Mary) is an order of nuns of the Catholic Church.  It is my understanding that each order of nuns has its own "speciality" and theirs happens to be the preservation of the Earth. When my house belonged to the St. Mary Farms, it belonged to the IHM nuns, not the St. Mary's Church which is almost next door.  I hope this helps.  It's confusing because the two are so close together.

@KR: There is a connection.  I asked the director yesterday and she said St. Mary's is their Church and some of the IHM nuns taught at the school.  I'm pretty sure the nuns also taught at the Academy. There is a lot of history here that I need to learn about since it's not even 10 miles down the road from me.

How did you select the 10 people to help paint the mural?
Liz replied about 1 year ago
@KR: Some of the nuns at the Motherhouse meet to do art and are interested in helping.  Some of our garden club members are artistic and there are a couple of artist clubs in the community where we can get people.  We will start with a few to see how many can be working at one time.
