Sometimes It Pays to Complain! May 18, 2013

Since the delivery truck broke down on its way for our delivery yesterday, we were promised a 2:00 delivery today. My husband is a nice guy (too nice, sometimes) and I wanted them to know how unhappy I was; so I called the store and asked for the manager. Nothing he could say would appease me. My husband brought home what he...

Holy cow what an ordeal - yeah I'd be working on getting that delivery fee back too!!  That is kind of funny that the driver said that about the watering can tho...lol

How many chickens are you planning on getting? We have 10 hens and six nest boxes in our coop. We could have just built three since they always lay all they're eggs in two nests. We ended up blocking off three of the nests

Wow, I bet you're glad everything is finally there!
Barn at the Organic Garden Is Almost Finished! May 17, 2013
Activity-icon-status

The second barn at the St. Mary Organic Garden is almost finished.  Two people have not turned in their paintings yet and spaces are saved for them.  A Rachel Carson quote will go on the second wall.  "Those who dwell among the beauties and mysteries of the earth are never alone or weary of life."  My husband brought home... ...see more

An Interesting Afternoon May 16, 2013
Activity-icon-status

I have pretty much been in a bad mood since the farmer started spraying his rented fields this morning. I felt cooped up in the house with the house closed up, so I went to a couple greenhouses to cheer myself up.  I filled the entire van up with flats of flowers and a gigantic metal rooster.  So I'm sitting on the couch...

Booo for spraying but that is awesome about getting the garden blessed!!  I don't think I've ever heard of priests going around doing that - been Catholic all my life...  I love that you guys are... more »

I guess the blessing doesn't work if the machinery doesn't belong to you.  Menard's was suppose to deliver between 12:00 and 3:00.  At 3:30 I answered the phone and the truck was loaded and they ... more »

So beautiful! I still wonder how this house, which is located in fruit tree central of Washington State, could be as old as it is and not have any fruit trees. We have walnut and black walnut, but that is it. Your trees are wonderful.

Gorgeous!  I bet it smells wonderful :)  Ours should start to open up in the next few days - I'm excited to have an apple crop again this year!

My package from Garden Crossings came while I was gone.  I got three more blueberry plants.....Vaccinium 'Pink Lemonade'.....they also have flower buds just like the other blueberry plants I ordered.  I read something recently that said you are supposed to cut your blueberry flowers off the first year to promote bushiness and... ...see more

I've been researching blueberries this past week (we're considering adding a few bushes to the yard this year) and I've been reading the same thing, but no personal experience to go from yet :)
PYehl replied 8 days ago
I've read that too - but never done it - I'm like you I just don't have the heart.  =)  Not like you get a ton of berries the 1st few years anyhow - but now that my plants are 5 yrs old they are covered with flowers!!

Yesterday was our Spring District II Meeting which our garden club hosted at the St. Mary's IHM Motherhouse.  The theme was "Eating for Your Health" and our club made the centerpieces, prepared the breakfast table goodies, and got the speaker for this event.  We had 100 gardeners attend.  Our speaker was Sharon McNeil, the... ...see more

This building sure looks like Marshall High School, near Hollywood CA, where we used to live. It is used as a "school" in many frames from many movies and TV shows: http://www.goodsearch.com/search-image?k... more »
